Re: Julian/Cuyamaca Mine Run/hike - Saturday 10/19/13

You could look for a pretty cheap utility/rain boot like these: http://amzn.com/B002WN2T16 You can probably find something like that local and not have to pay shipping. I don't know if the mine with the water is the one with a little hike/climb up to it, don't know how well these would work for that.

Fish Creek to Hapaha Flat, Sat 10/12

I'm thinking of heading out to Anza Borrego on Saturday the 12th to check out the upper Fish Creek area. I would like to check out the area around Dave McCain Spring and Split Rock for future camping trips. I have only ever been as far as Sandstone Canyon, so I'm not familiar with the general condit...

Re: Julian/Cuyamaca Mine Run/hike - Saturday 10/19/13

I would like to sign up for this trail run. My in-laws will be in town for the weekend so I won't be camping, but I would like to take my father in-law on this as a day trip. I have been through the area on my own before but have never participated in the mine tours, looking forward to learning some...

Re: Field Day Planning

Looks like you are planning to be using the Frazier Mountain repeater, 447.860-, is this still correct? Thanks.

Re: Field Day Planning

Oh, I didn't realize you would be done that soon on Sunday. I might be up to the summit earlier, just not sure yet how long it's going to take me to hike 6 miles ~4000 ft elevation gain. I was planning to call on 146.520, but it would probably be easier to first get you on the repeater and then try ...

Simplex from San Jacinto?

I will be attempting to hike to the summit of San Jacinto Peak (10,800 ft) on Sunday afternoon and thought it might be fun to try to contact you guys. I have a 5W HT (FT-60) with a pretty decent antenna that I've used to make some pretty long (~100 mile) simplex contacts with before from much lower ...

Sounds good, I'll be in a silver Nissan frontier. Hope it won't be too wet out there tomorrow.

Re: 2012-12-01: Sombrero Peak Hike

Sounds like a fun hike! I'm interested in heading out with you, but do you think that 6 hours is a reasonable estimate given the terrain? I've only hiked out that way once and without a trail it was pretty slow going.
