Re: OAUSA HF Net 75m

Hey Dave I'm familiar with the problem. My dad went through this with his 6160. He had to continuously move his between two different mounts due to where his 5th wheel mounted. His was an exposed coil, and a simple bump to it meant having to re-match the coil. He ended up finding one that fits insid...

Re: OAUSA HF Net 75m

Hey Fetus, What you mention is closely akin to how my Dad (W6HTW) and I would keep tabs. He's more the motor home type, but spends a great deal of time on the road. We trade anchoring one another while we're out and about. You're trip to Area 51 is precisely the type of trips where someone could ben...

Re: OAUSA HF Net 75m

Hey Dave, Haven't got the shorts out of that control cord, eh? HI, HI! Well, let's get some ideas up for consideration. I'm thinking of some ways to not only allow "some ragchew"...but also, to add some real function to the net that would accomodate both hobbies....offroading, overlanding (or, whate...

Re: OAUSA HF Net 75m

Bump! Has anyone given this HF net thingy any more thought. I'm game. Listening to 40m right now and the band is very active, and holding up well. For those that do not have active home stations, I can suggest some simple and very inexpensive end-fed wire antennas (approx. 66 ft. long) that can be t...

Re: Probably a dumb question - tuning a mobile 2m setup?

For a given frequency....lengthen to lower, shorten to raise. In most cases you won't need to tune a 2m/70cm antenna, except for a few of the loaded higher gain models....say 5/8 wave and greater. In that case, for FM just target a frequency that's roughly in the middle of the band. A resonant anten...

Re: OAUSA HF Net 75m

I think it's a great idea, and I've also wondered if at any time there would be enough offroad travelers that would see a benefit and would participate much like the maritime HF nets. I think 20m or 40m would be a better bet. Antennas for these bands can be more easily put together for those checkin...

Re: 2009-10-10: OAUSA Test Session and Meet & Greet

You might want to consider bumping this up one weekend. On October 3th and 4th., the California QSO Party is held. One of the largest national contests of the year. There are categories for all bands and modes for both HF (160, 80, 40, 20, 15, and 10m) and FM (10, 6 and 2m). Techs can compete on 10 ...

Re: Yaesu FT-8900r Quad Band with matched Diamond CR8900 antenna

Good guess! And, sorry for confusing you with my post. I never purchased the separation kit. The radio was small enough to fit where I wanted without one. I was referring to the C400 lipmount and coax kit....It's being used with the new rig.

Yaesu FT-8900r Quad Band with matched Diamond CR8900 antenna

Recently upgraded license and radio. The poor 8900 has sat since then. It's approx. a year-old (have receipts from HRO) FT-8900r Quad Band with the Diamond CR8900 antenna. The antenna folds and has been fortified with an extra layer of marine heat shrink (adhesive lined) to the loading coils to prot...
