Re: Bivouac camping

If one is backpacking, then you are correct, that a one pound bivy is better (lighter) than a 3 pound bivy. In Rogers case however, he is using a Butler Bags sleeping bag and as it appears that he is camping near his vehicle, that extra two pounds won't make a difference. In the end though, I suspe...

Re: Bivouac camping

Cabela's sells a Bivy tent that can help keep these pests out of your tent at night and during the day (see: http://www.cabelas.com/product/Eagles-Camp-Bivy-Tent-ndash-1-Person/1947503.uts?Ntk=AllProducts&searchPath=%2Fcatalog%2Fsearch.cmd%3Fform_state%3DsearchForm%26N%3D0%26fsch%3Dtrue%26Ntk%3DAll...

Re: Bivouac camping

I have used a bivy for some time. I have never had any issues with snakes, dangerous insects or critters. Most know what you are and want to stay away. I stuff my socks in my boots . . . I have a Sierra Designs Baffin bivy, and into that I insert whatever sleeping bad I want. I usually put on top of...

Re: Monache Meadows June 2015

Pictures??? I hope to go through them this weekend in Big Bear. I didn’t take a lot of them. I get distracted … then forget ... Maybe next week I am going to getthe radio out again, with the mast and all, down at the beach someplace in OC and see if where I think I went wrong is indeed where I went...

Monache Meadows June 2015

Well, the trip was great fun, but one of total failure in two areas, fish and radio … We stayed at Chimney Peak one night and it was a in great shape. In the past, I have had folks hit Keller Peak from there and be able to talk out to folks on the 395. This did not work this trip. I could not get Bi...

Re: Monache Meadows 6/26-28/15

That is bad news! I will go up above the weir and look around. If there is nothing to catch, then I will follow your example and take a nap! Then play radio . . . Then nap! It might rain, then no radio play and another nap. Side note: when I do camp with the truck, about 80% of the time if not more ...

Let us know your operating information for Field Day. I will be running Airmail, and if you can send emails, you can reach me by using my Winlink address. I should get you on my white list before the weekend if we are going to be using this. You can PM me with your address and I will send you an em...

Monache Meadows 6/26-28/15

A couple of us will be in Monache Meadows this weekend. Friday we’ll be at Chimney Peak and then move on to Monache Meadows on Saturday. It is a pretty loose trip . . . no time table . . . come as you are if you like. I will have my HF stuff with me and shall set it up at some point in the day and t...

Re: 10 Meters in Far Off Places for Fun

Well, using the old Radio Shack HTX10 and the mag mount stick antenna, in what must have been some grey line propagation, I got CA3LMO, Santiago Chile from Crystal Cove State Beach, Newport, CA on 10 meters, SSB with 25 watts and a 5 5 signal report! It works, and not bad for 5500 miles on about 130...
