Re: $40 APRS plus Upgrades

Tested in Anza Borrego this past weekend. My Old Droid Phone did not seem to work very well as a GPS, whilst my current phone and tavblet had no issue. Swapped phones and all was well. I am going to look for a small tablet, 7-8 inch, GPS and Bluetooth . . . Baofeng radios are quirky. Tested with two...

Re: $40 APRS plus Upgrades

I have a similar little setup using an old Motorola Droid phone with APRSDroid OSM via Bluetooth to the Mobilinkd TNC and a Baofeng UV5R hooked to a Tram mag mount on the roof. It works fine and I can send messages with it which I cannot do with my other, cable tangling mess of a system (http://foru...

Re: Calico Mogfest Mania

I'm sure we can find you a ride if you want to try out a Unimog, Pinzgauer, or some other Euro off roader. Oh, that would be fun! I have ridden in on of them before (not sure off the top of my head which it was) as part of being hauled about during Forest Aid in the San Bernardino Mountains, Jim Ly...

Bruce, that is pretty cool!!! I have another thing going that weekend in Big Bear but if that falls through, I might make the drive to Barstow to see these.

Re: WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE REPEATER

Check here: http://www.w6tj.org/TASMARptrList.pdf and there are others on Santigo Peak. Not sure how active they may be. There are parts of North OC where Keller is problematic, and so is Santiago Peak in others. Sierra Peak hits most of that and down into where Santiago Peak gets toward Irvine and ...

Re: Questions about Cal4wd

I do not know how honest an answer you’ll get from either or any “side.” The clubs that have and are leaving are not bad folks and have legitimate issues. They are not trying to give CA4WDC a “bad rap” and have mostly been pretty contained in their public mentions of it all. The drama you have likel...

Re: APRS for 2012

Thanks for the informative reply. You confirmed some of what I suspected. The fact that not a single other person has commented also tells me much about the future of this system and technology. Sometimes technology doesn’t advance much for a while. For example, the spoon has been around a long tim...

Re: Welcome to the California Associatin of 4WD Associations

I'm guessing you didn't read my last post - but I am requesting that any discussion regarding issues involving CA4WDC be put up in a separate thread - this thread was intended to welcome them to OAUSA, not to grill them...Thanks ;) I read it, but there was no other thread that I could find in which...
