Re: 2008-07-14 thru 24: FJ-Summit and Kokopelli Trek Trip Report

Ollie,

What's the vertical clearance on that overhang on the Yankee Boy Basin picture? it looks like some of those FJs may have had to remove their roof loads to get by.

Re: Advice on Installation

It's kind of scary the first time you take a hole saw to any vehicle :o but I think you'll be pleased with the results  . You'll get the best performance for the bucks with a permanent mount and a good ground plane antenna. If vertical clearance is a problem you may want to consider a Diamond K...

Re: SummerFest Run Planning

Anyone's welcome to ride along if they want. One advantage of having a troop transport for a rig is that you can go on a run with 7 of your closest friends AND a refrigerator full of food and drink :D . Just don't ask about air conditioning or heat but I do carry a supply of passenger ear plugs for ...

Re: Advice on Installation

Ken, You might try your local library if you don't want to buy one. A Chilton's manual should have the instructions to drop the headliner. Don't apologize about your van. Between business road trips and car pools I drove about every minivan that was on the market at that time and preferred the Chevy...

Re: SummerFest Run Planning

I guess I can say that I ran the tough part of John Bull from West to East in 2WD even if it was unintentional :D.

Re: SummerFest General Discussion

I'm planning on coming up on Friday.

If anyone knows of an alternate way up the mountain from Lucern Valley I'm open to meeting down there to caravan up.

Re: SummerFest Run Planning

Well.... It may not be too hard to talk me into it if we have a spotter. I broke one of few vulnerable parts under the truck the last time I tried running it. I was following another Pinzgauer that was bopping up through the rocks without a spotter showing off to the Jeepers behind us :twiste...

Re: Advice on Installation

I've installed a couple of NMO mounts in car roofs. Both cars I've done had single piece molded headliners which were fairly easy to drop after looking at a good shop manual for the instructions. Measure carefully to center the hole and use a good quality hole saw of the appropriate size in a drill....

Re: SummerFest Run Planning

Is anyone planning some moderate runs for Big Bear. I don't trailer my rig so I need to drive it home and I have another wheeling trip planned for Labor Day weekend that I don't want to miss. Two places I would like to avoid are John Bull and Mr. Toad's Wild Ride. Although, can be fun to sit at the ...

Re: OAUSA SummerFest Interest Poll

Cactus Flats is about 10 miles from the Discovery Center. One disadvantage of Cactus Flats other than the primitive camping is that it's at a lower altitude than many of the other Big Bear locations so the temperature will be slightly warmer. There is some wheeling directly from that area 3N0...
