Re: Not a fan

Hey Fun: That's not an uncommon complaint. Transmitting from inside a metal box (your vehicle) is not very conducive to good communication. Unfortunately, hooking up an external antenna is not possible or practical with any of these units so you are limited to short distance communication. Most of t...

FunJunkie, aw12345, DominicG: Easy fellas. We welcome everyone and that most certainly includes CB folks. Why, if you take a close look at my rig, you'll find one of Radio shack's best (CB) lurking right next to my ham radio. We aren't shy though, when it comes to extolling the virtues of ham radio ...

Re: HAM Operating license

Actually, I think you will find that a lot of guys buy the radio first. Whether it's an incentive to get your ticket or just a chance to listen in, there is nothing wrong with getting it first. From my own personal experience, I have found the Gordon West books to be outstanding. I used them for my ...

Re: Any HAM examiners on this forum?

Yes, we have a couple of VE's. Ultimately we intend to offer testing through OAUSA. Might take a little while to get that off the ground. Stay tuned.

If you need to take an exam, we can hook you up. Just let me know.

BUT, are they better and why?

Re: May 15, 2008 Amateur Radio Net

I thought that the idea of putting various manuals on the laptop was brilliant. To save disc space on my laptop and as a backup, I am putting all of the various manuals, (vehicle, mobile and HT, and GPS) on a flash drive which is kept in the vehicle at all times. That way, if my PC breaks down, I ca...

2008-05-15: Vehicle Preparation Series

The topic for this net was vehicle essentials from the Vehicle Preparation Series. The net lasted 2 hours and we had over 30 check-ins. Due to time constraints and the need to discuss our topics, we were not able to complete the full list of vehicle essentials and will probably continue with this di...

Re: Noob question...

Hey Craig: I'm glad that you at least got a chance to catch part of the net. Sierra Peak is not up and running quite yet. We think they should be up in a few weeks. We will be adding other repeaters however and will announce that shortly. On the antenna issue, you could always hook your HT up to a m...
