SummerFest Announcement

#1

Post by Cnynrat » Sat Jul 19, 2008 4:14 pm

OAUSA LLC SummerFest

Where: Big Bear, CA

When: Friday/Saturday/Sunday August 22-24

The Plan: Beat the heat in Big Bear for the weekend!

• Wheeling for all ability levels
• Informal runs Friday afternoon for those that can make it up early
• Organized runs Saturday
• See some old friends, and make some new ones
• Traditional Saturday Night Potluck Dinner

Camping: We have reserved the Big Pine Flats group campsite courtesy of Dirty Parts. We’ll be accepting campers at the group campsite in the order you sign up to attend the event. The campsite has a capacity of 25 people/15 vehicles. If we run over capacity the Big Pine Flats Family campground is available for overflow and is located about ½ mile away from the group site. (The campsites at the family campground are quite nice.)

The group site has running water, a vault toilet, picnic tables, charcoal grills, and a fire ring. It’s even got 3 horse stalls in case Ollie gets out of hand!

Getting There: Normally, Rim of The World Rd (3N14) out of Fawnskin would be the most direct route, but it’s still closed from last year’s fires. The shortest route from the north shore is Polique Canyon (2N09), left on Holcomb Valley (3N16), to (3N14). A somewhat longer route is Van Duesen Canyon (3N09), right on Holcomb Valley (3N16) to 3N14. The Van Duesen route is 13 miles from the north shore (sorry, I don’t have mileage for the 2N09 route). More detailed directions will be posted before the event.

Interested in Volunteering to Help Out? We would love some help organizing this event. Let us know if you are interested in managing one of the planning topics on the board (Roll Call, Potluck, Trail Runs), or if you’d like to organize and lead a run, or help with check in at the event.

Thanks in advance for all your help, and look forward to seeing you in Big Bear!
