I seem to remember that you already had a GPS in your Jeep. What type is it? If you tell us what type/model it is I'll see what cable you need and we'll go from there.

It looks as if we'd have to use your Magellan for APRS. The only cable I see for your Garmin Colorado is the USB cable. That will allow for NMEA-0183 Input/Output to a computer via a USB cable but the TM-D710 doesn't appear to be USB compatible. Did you get all the cabling you see in the image below with your Magellan? If so, we should be able to get you going. ;)

Here is a good website with some tricks for the D700 running APRS, which I'm sure you can carry over to the 710. Makes me want to go play in my Jeep. I haven't tried using voice alert before. I like how the D710 has the "tune" function to APRS stations.

REMINDER

There is about 3 weeks left for those who need to buy gear or ask questions. If you are running, or expect to run, something besides UI View (UIV) or AGW, let us know so we can make sure to have some help available.

If you are not sure if you have the necessary gear, software or APRS program, post up so we can help.

An example of the need to plan ahead involves those who want to use UIV. If you do, be aware that it is necessary to be a licensed ham. Once you apply to down load the program, you must wait until you are approved and get permission to use the program. The whole process takes a day or two before you can use it. Additionally, once you get your APRS program installed, it will help if you are able to get it up and running with everything connected just to see how things look.
