The TW2010 will do 15m but, I think we're gonna' be using it for 20m.
Maybe an "in-truck" station could be activated on this band. The ATAS units will tune 15m and even Hamsticks are reasonably efficient on 15m. Perhaps not as efficiently as a wire or ground mounted vertical, but it would make for a great display of what HF can do for offroaders directly from the seats in their trucks. Showing the ability to make contacts easily across the States, or in the late afternoon as far away as So. America, Hawaii, and Japan.
BTW Steve, I went ahead and pulled the trigger on a 40m BP filter tonite, so we're covered on 20m and 40m.

I have a generator that I can possibly bring with me, I believe it is a 2200 Honda, and I have plenty of extension cords, ha ha. Taking my ham license test on march 27th, prolly wont be much help but I wanna learn :D

I chatted with a couple of my Ham friends who also 4x4 volunteer with US Forestry in the Big Bear area. If taking 4x4 trails to reach a location is an option, Black Mountain was a suggestion. I have not been up there, but it sounds like the views are incredible. They were not sure about camping. Coon Creek Cabin, as mentioned before, is also a good option - they were on the trip I made there - but did know the cost for camping.

I'll be meeting up with them this weekend down in Los Angeles and they may show some other areas they know on the topo maps.

A couple links I found on Black Mountain.

Pardon me for being new, but I saw the post on Expo Portal and wondered, has there been any consideration with teaming up with the Big Bear Amateur Radio Club for Field Day? They have done an event every year for a long time and have bathrooms, a location, and quite a nice setup already. I lived there growing up and did Field Day annually.

By the way, I will plan to attend, always can use an excuse to go home and visit the family and show off the grand kids. If I can get a day off, I will be there.

Brian:

Welcome to OAUSA. This is our first Summer Fest/Field Day event and it looks like we will have a very good turnout. Steeevo has done a terrific job of organizing this event and it will be the first of many!

Look forward to meeting you.

Welcome to OAUSA !!!

If you have a minute, head over to the "New Members Check In" section, and tell us a little more about yourself, your interests, and your involvement in amateur radio...

Thanks, and welcome to the site :D

The 40m bandpass filter showed up today. They must be keeping inventory in them, but that'll change as we get closer to Field Day. Anyhow, both 20m and 40m are covered.

I have an EZ up we can use - I just won't have any room to bring it up in my FJ...so if you have any ideas, it's available. ;)

OAUSA hasn't had good luck with easy ups. We had our (OAUSA's) "take flight" at one of Bass Pro Shop Evnets...
