Shack on a Bike

I tested out my Ham-on-a-Bike rig on a long ride to Sierra Peak. The setup has been holding up very well, even on rough descents. No real problems with my road testing two weeks ago, but that's pretty smooth going. I figured it needed a bit more vibration testing!

From the operator's perspective:

The housing is just a Yaesu VX-7R in a food container, with foam cushioning underneith. I know, 7 Romeos are supposed to be waterproof, but I sweat a lot, especially on rides such as this. There's a lot of velcro holding this on. Antenna is connected with RG58 coax. I find the speakermic is easier to use, but I'd like to get the boom mic headset working a bit better. Then I can put the PTT on the handlebars. I don't like riding one-handed.

Cool - not sure I saw the antena - is it on the back of the bike? How about a bigger picture.

I'll try to get a larger photo...for some reason that photo of my bike is a lot smaller in physical size...but it's not that much smaller of a file than the other one!

Eubi:

Extraordinary and very innovative. You should have been able to hit Fam Comm without a problem!

Nightsun headlamps... you don't see those very often anymore. I have some parts if you need them.

Good eye. Yes, I'm a gutter bunny, and need extraordinary lighting for my early morning commute. These are very nice.
