Larry:

The rope we used last year measures .250 inch and we used 6 per mast.

Jon/Larry:

The steel stakes we used last year for the masts were 3 feet long, 1.5 inches wide and .250 inch thick. I don't remember where we got them, but they worked very well. Are the stakes included in the new masts similar?

I just picked up the 10M band pass filter and that should complete our set up for 5 bands.

The stakes that come with the new masts are about 12" long or so, not anywhere as large or as thick as those I picked up last year...

I'll pick up the 1/4" nylon rope this weekend if I can - if you want me to pick up more of the stakes, I can do that at the same time...

I also have 3 Radiowavz Double Bazooka Dipole antennas on their way - 15m, 20m, 40m - so we'll have back-ups in case of any problem with Hector's antennas...

It would be a good idea then to get the same stakes for the new masts. If you can pick them up, we will be set. Let me know the amount and I'll help.

Thanks.

Dave, Larry,

Not sure if we need any larger stakes that what came with the mast kits. Remember that the mast has a tripod at the base, so the guy lines aren't the only and probably not the primary support for the structure. I think this weekend we should go set one up before we buy any larger stakes for them. I'll get the pulleys for the kits this weekend as well.

Jon:

The tripod won't be near enough to hold a 30-40 foot mast, especially in moderate winds, and we will need to guy it out for stability. In loose or sandy soil, the 12 inch stakes may be very inadequate.

Hector has some experience with his and we should get his input.

I picked up 6 - 100' rolls of 1/4" nylon rope, and 12 - 24" flat metal stakes (same types as I bought for last year's Field Day)...hopefully, we still have the rope and stakes I bought last year, too, and should now be set for stabilizing all of the antenna masts... ;)

With the exception of two more computers and a 10M band captain, I think we are all set. I would like Hector and the rest of the planning group to give the equipment list the "once-over" to make sure that we haven't forgotten something.

Jon had suggested that we do a dry-run to set up the new masts and that sounded like a good idea. Jon - if you want to see if we can set up a time before FD, let's do it.
