Route Description:
Much of this description is from the 4-Wheelers Guide to Trails of the San Bernardino Mountains by William C. Teie. This book is well worth the $20 price if you plan to do trails in Big Bear. He also has a guide to the Rubicon Trail that I recommend. Use this link to order the book.

The White Mountain trail is close to our camp site. It is rated as a black diamond but most equipped rigs will find it moderate and a fun ride. We can do it in 3 -4 hours (plus lunch) or so unless we have break downs. Plan on a 9a to 3p (or earlier) time frame. Bring your lunch. We should be back in camp early enough to enjoy some wine and start cooking for the potluck

On the map, 034 is the turn into our Group Camp site at Big Pines. The yellow track is mostly gravel road to the start of the White Mountain trail (in Blue).
The 6 mile trail is rated as more difficult (read Blue trail) but if you take the bypass sections it quickly becomes a “most difficult” (read Black Diamond). [on this trail the by passes are not what we think of as by passes! And we plan to take all the by passes.] The White Mountains are a series of 3 peaks each about 7700 feet high. There are several great vistas along the trail one of the best is windy point. From this location you get a great view of the Lucerne Valley.

Cal 3 Wheel Hill
Gets its name from an event in the past. A 4-wheeler named Cal was trying to conquer the hill when a wheel came off his rig. With minimal tools he replaced the wheel and proceeded up and over.
Suicide Hill
One of the toughest hills. The store goes that a father – son team was attempting this hill when the rig rolled killing one of them. This hill is not just steep; it is loose and offers a side-hill component.
Frustration Hill
This is a straightforward “most difficult” challenge. It just goes up and over the hill.

Just fyi - I read last year's report about the motorcycles. The reason I'll be up here is because of the same event going on this weekend this year. (I'm hauling up my brother's dirtbike and dropping him off at a motel).

Kinda wanted to make this, but I have a meeting at 0830 at the Discovery Center. I'll probably run a trail after that (not difficult) but I'll listen to the Keller Peak repeater to hear how much fun you're having
