2019 Summer Fest and Field Day Campsite

Mt Pinos Campground is located approximately 18.5 miles from the 5 freeway in Frasier Park. All roads are fully paved.

The Campground is oriented roughly East and slopes down slightly which should make propagation great from a terrain standpoint.

One of two possible areas for our antenna farm. Tall trees surround most camp sites so erecting antennas should not be a problem.

All campsites have a picnic table and fire ring. Several vault toilets are located in the campground. There is no potable water.

A 160 meter full wave loop is very doable here. Any takers?

I wanted to add a some observations, thoughts and reminders from my recent trip up there that you might find useful in planning your stay.

1. The days should be in the 70’s to low 80’s so shorts sleeves and even shorts would be appropriate. Nights can drop down into the 50’s and even low 40’s. There is always a chance of a storm rolling through.
2. We will be at a higher elevation and a little more exposed than past stays at McGill CG. I experienced a light breeze at about 2:00pm. Long pants and a decent jacket will advised at night.
3. I did not see much in the way of nasty burrs, seed pods or the other plant material that stick to your socks. Hikers or good tennis shoes will be sufficient in most areas of the campground.
4. Please bring sunscreen, a hat, sunglasses and any other required protection you may require. There are a significant number of large pine tree at most, but not all sites.
5. As mentioned numerous times, there is no potable water at the campground. Please ensure that you bring sufficient water for all your needs. This is especially true for sanitation. I would suggest hand sanitizers be close at hand.
6. I will provide a small water cooler in or around the Ham shack.
7. Bring a chair that can move with you as needed. We often utilize different camp sites for our various activities.
