ANNOUNCEMENT

For as long as we have been doing our annual Field Day and Summer Fest event, it has always been one of our favorite outdoor get-aways. For the last 12 years, OAUSA has distinguished itself by the very unique approach that we take to this, and all of our events. This approach has evolved somewhat over the years, and while we have incorporated many activities into the weekends, we have never lost sight of Ham Radio, as an important part of the event.

Our uniqueness has taken the form of so many things that no other Field Day can claim, including:
  • a three day event in remote mountain campsites, with great summertime weather and scenery
  • an event where both 2WD and 4WD vehicles can attend, and where there are great 4WD off-road trails to explore
  • Ham Radio license testing, right at camp
  • world class cuisine at our Dutch Oven cook-off on Saturday evening, and outstanding group meals for all the others
  • wine tasting
  • hot sauce tasting
  • coffee tasting
  • Bourbon tasting and after dinner libations
  • a smorgasbord of appetizers before each dinner
  • multiple hiking trails
  • three days of relaxation
  • and, of course, a full Field Day competition
There is more, but this should offer a glimpse of why we are so successful. One thing stands out about our approach - it is VERY social, and this is why we have decided to postpone or defer the event to another date. Bottom line, at least for now, is that we are cancelling our Field Day and Summer Fest event. The reasons are many, but for us to enjoy all of the benefits to which we are accustomed, we will need to wait for things to calm down.

Dave,
I plan to attend this years Field Day in whatever form it may take. Our event is too much fun and too valuable of an experience to miss! We
will certainly need to prepare some alternate plans for radio operations, meals, appetizers, our various "Tastings" and off road activities but
I am confident that we can not only make this work, but perhaps learn a few things in the process for future events.

ARRL Contest Manager Paul Bourque, N1SFE, said. “Field Day isn’t about doing things the same way year after year. Use this year to develop
and employ a new approach that is in line with the current circumstances.”

“With any emergency preparedness exercise, it’s not about adapting the situation to your operation, it’s about adapting your operation to the
situation that presents itself”

I will still plan to arrive on Thursday as usual and hope that others will make the trip if they are able.

I'm looking forward to another Field Day camping trip. My intention is to attend and I suspect Joe will come as well.

I would like to go to the field day event, but as a new guy, don’t want to push anyone out. Things are fluid for me right now-May have 1 to 5 people. Might not be able to stay entire time.
Family medical issues will determine what I can do.

Tentatively going. Maybe 2 - 4 people

Since the average age of Corona death is 80 and the survivability rate is 99.7-99.9 I’m not worried about that part. Besides being outside will clean the air. Not like we can’t space out around the food or campfire etc and have a mask available for close contact:)
And I missed last couple years! Is Larry in?

Put me in Dave. I NEED TO GET OUT! I'm game for whatever we have to do to be safe...even if it means no Poppy Seed Chicken and the always awesome potluck. The last one in ANZA was epic!

Assuming restrictions are eased I should be in for the whole weekend.
I really miss being out, and I miss hanging out with the entire OAUSA gang...so if the event is able to go on, I'll be there

Assuming the campground is open I want to try to make it one way or another. I'm kind of forced to travel light right now so I'll probably just be car camping sans radio and all of the associated paraphernalia. It will be nice to get out of the house for a few days non the less. Working from home has it's benefits but you're also tethered to one place all week.
