Rock Stacking
I am not sure where to post this...
Please be aware that when you stack rocks to "improve" a trail so that you can get through, you may be ruining the trail(s) for all those that follow after you.
I won't bore you with all the details... but up in the HI-DEZ a really great (great being code for rocky and difficult) trail for motos (yes, a legal trail)... a trail that was very difficult for 4x4s... has had a group go through in the last couple weeks. This unknown group (4x4 group) spent a lot of time stacking rocks to get through. (Looks like a lot of work.) Well... now it is impassable by moto. The trail is ruined.
So please... remember... what you see on the trail as an impassable obstacle is another person's means of entertainment and enjoyment.

Re: Rock stacking
That is a great point sir... When people started trying to take their FJ's through the Squeeze in Anza Borrego I caught an earfull by a lot of people in Jeeps. They were upset that the numerous stacked rocks in the squeeze were not removed by those that placed them. They asked me to spread the word through the FJ community of how disconcerting it is. The folks that placed the rocks made it into a highway for the Jeepers so it was no longer a challenge. They weren.t upset that an FJ went through the Squeeze but rather that they didn't leave it as they found it. I kind of get their point.

Re: Rock stacking
This can never be stressed enough. Good post.
I usually remove rocks if I see someone stacked them to get through an area. For instance, I removed a bunch of rocks from the dropoff by Piepkorn Slot (causing Ollie to almost roll his FJ the next day - oops). A few months later all the rocks were stacked back, even though I rolled them all the way down the hill. Must have been a lot of work.

Beat me to it Scott!gon2srf wrote:Maybe you guys can go unstack Coyote Canyon.Seriously, point well taken.
Coyote is a walk in the park now that the Park Service has taken a big bite out of the one rock on the PS (headed up) and filled in way to may of the holes that at least made it fun.

That's nothing compared to what they did with upper Coyote Canyon. I was so upset after they graded it!brentbba wrote:Beat me to it Scott!gon2srf wrote:Maybe you guys can go unstack Coyote Canyon.Seriously, point well taken.

But back to the main topic of staking rocks. This subject always comes up now and then and it's a good reminder. I always try to leave a trail as I have found it. A pair of good work gloves helps out alot.
