Storm Chasing

Post by DaveK » Sat Oct 03, 2015 10:00 am

Trips to the lake are always an adventure, especially when the lake is located in the (very) hot desert. Hot weather brings thunder storms and thunder storms bring lightening and rain. On this trip, on one day in particular, it was a challenge to choose between the spectacular photography and the danger, but we chose safety and spent the better part of the afternoon being chased by the storm.

The morning, however, was classic summer weather - fantastic!!!

Extremism in the defense of liberty is no vice.
Moderation in the pursuit of justice is no virtue.

Great pics, and good advice, too.

The desert is an amazingly dynamic environment, despite it's seemly stark atmosphere - and this feeling of "stagnation" or "sameness" frequently gets folks into big trouble in what can become very dangerous surroundings.

Weather in the desert (or any extreme environment) can change quickly and dramatically, so you must always be vigilant in maintaining an acute awareness of your surroundings (and in the case of flash floods, areas far from you as well).
Light travels faster than sound. This is why some people appear really bright, until they start talking
