FWIW, the Portland, Oregon, IRLP node, 3039 has a fairly broad regional coverage, radiating from the 600-ft level on the KOIN tower. It's owner, Michael Bloom, is at least an acquaintance if not a friend and pays the rent for that out of his own pocket. If I look out my home-office window I can about see it up in the Portland west hills.

The Tigard node, 7665, is in my garage and runs 5 Watts and covers Tigard fairly well. Tigard is pronounced like Tiger'd -- you come in with scratches and the wife asks, "Did you get Tiger'd again?"

Greetings.
some thoughts. plan for 3 months of self reliance, 6 months is better.
Start small and make incremental changes.

Food,
Build your storage based on what you like to eat, balance this with shelf life considerations.
A disaster is made worse by terrible food.. A friend buys MRE's and throws them away every so many years.
He probably wont enjoy them if he has to utilze them, but lots of good memories of his time in the navy, but I'm betting his family wont eat them.

Add your food storage to your menu, so it becomes auto rotating and you dont waste $$.
Bishop's store in Temecula has canned flour, 20 years, store under the bed instead of in your freezer.
Get a grinder and unground wheat.

I consider last chance food items to be the plentyful Quail and Bunnies running around my property.
Milk: Lactose free milk has a 5-6 week use by date, much longer than regular milk.

Short term food
Liquid coffee creamer doesn't last long, invest in a box of powder creamer.
Fruits and veggies, go for freeze dried, it tastes great and makes for a great snack too (strawberrys for example, like in the K cerial.)

Shelf life,
Freeze dried is long time.
Canning is really good. Pictures on my QRZ page, of a variety of canned food items that is part of our rotation.

Water, store more than you need.
In my case, my WELL is where I store it, which meant
adding my whole house generator fueled by natural gas with propane and unleaded as backup.

Security.
Lots of motion solar lights are useful.
Camera and sensor lights are helpful.
If you live in a free state, get your license to carry a firearm and train with it. Lots of ammo and some spare parts are useful.
Remember, one is none.

Comms, more is better, lithium phosphate battery run a long time, last a long time. Solar and battery storage is part of my mobile, and my shack.

Stop and think about what item or items will you most stress over, once its not readily available. Outage for a couple days vs, a month.. ?

Internet? I can live without it.
Gas stations closed? I have 50 gallons of stabil treated fuel stored.
Keep your car's fuel tank topped off... Just when you hit 1/8 tank, and earthquake can take out the local fuel supply.. Whatcha gonna do now smarty?
How about Insulin or other critical meds? Number one on the list!
Toilet paper? Pretty high on the list !

Spend some time on this and make a plan to mitigate the problem.

In-vehicle storage.
solar panels mounted
Extra battery
Radios
starting battery
flashlights
voltmeter
compass
OBD2 reader
Ammo / magazines
Multitool
Knife
