#1

Post by DaveK » Mon Apr 03, 2017 9:10 am

Our net this week will be on a topic that all 4Wheelers face at some point in their off-roading career - what type and size tires to use and whether to lift the rig. Our guest will be our 4WD expert, Cruiser Larry. Join us with your experiences and suggestions.

NOTE: If you have questions or comments for Larry, post them here. We will submit them for a response at the beginning of the net

PRODUCT SPOTLIGHT

During our net a few weeks back, with Dr. Aaron, he mentioned a couple of products that he recommended be kept in your first aid kit. Here they are:

1. SHEARS

Quality shears are something that should be in every first aid kit. I'll mention two types here and your budget or your preference will determine which (or both) you purchase;

A. Rip Shears ( https://www.amazon.com/Rip-shears-Traum ... rip+shears )
These shears can slice through multiple layers of clothing, boots, leather, denim, wetsuits, CBR suits, bandages, seat belts, etc. They are usually inexpensive, and this makes it easier to have more than one. With the "low price tag" often comes a somewhat shortened usable working life. Not necessarily a problem, but something to keep in mind, especially if you use them often. Several models are available from retailers, like Amazon. Here is one:

B. Raptor Shears ( https://www.amazon.com/Leatherman-Rapto ... tor+shears ).
These are a Leatherman product and a quality item. On Amazon, they have earned a 4.8 (out of 5) stars with 547 reviews.
FEATURING 6 TOOLS: 420HC stainless steel folding medical shears, strap cutter, ring cutter, ruler (5 cm), oxygen tank wrench, carbide glass breaker.
420HC STAINLESS STEEL: An improved, high-carbon (HC) form of 420 stainless steel that works well with high production tooling. 420HC's strength is optimized in Leatherman multi-tools by heat treatment.
GLASS-FILLED NYLON: A thermoplastic material where strength is improved by adding chopped glass fibers. This allows for excellent durability without adding significant weight. In Leatherman knives, the glass-filled nylon handles are so strong that an inner steel frame is not required, thereby reducing weight for a lighter every day carry.
INJECTION-MOLDED POLYMER HOLSTER: Choose from 2 types of injection-molded polymer holsters: a utility holster that will generally fit EMT belts or a MOLLE (Modular Lightweight Load-carrying Equipment) compatible holster. The MOLLE compatible holster enables secure attachment to the current generation of load-bearing equipment and backpacks commonly utilized by a number of armed forces.
LEATHERMAN 25 YEAR GUARANTEE:

2. TWEEZERS WITH MAGNIFYING LENS AND LIGHT ( https://www.amazon.com/Carson-MagniGrip ... magnifying )

Two of the most used items in our first aid kits are band-aids and tweezers, especially if you have little ones. A lot of splinters are easy to find, but it seems that all of mine and those in my party are stubborn and difficult to remove. These tweezers are an example of a very clever idea that can sure help make things a whole lot more pleasant, especially for those unfortunate enough to run into some cholla.
