A nice place to visit from the SE side coming in from the Harry Wade Road. These photos come from the south side of the road butted up against the alluvial fan that is the north side of the Avawatz Mountains.

Here's a funny desert pic taken with a flash inside an old Mojave mine near Kelso in1995. The end of the shallow mine featured a substantial bat colony hanging from the ceiling. A disturbed bat was flying up and down the length of the mine. I did my best to capture it (with my camera). It was moving too fast, but I got its blurred image. The guy in front of the cave scooted as soon as I said the word "bat". A gal is frantically running out of the cave to escape the bat's wrath. Some people do not like bats!

I have been on the fence for a couple years about what kind of additional light to add to my Jeep to make it easier to see the trail, find turns, and locate a campsite at night. I have often thought that the remote controlled spotlights that you often find mounted on Sportsmobiles made a lot of sense. I never could think of a good way to mount the spotlight on my jeep.


This year at the SEMA show I spoke to Jason at GOLIGHT INC, and they are now making a No-Drill Jeep Mounting Bracket. It is designed to use the Windshield Frame support holes, they provide two longer bolts to swap out with the factor bolt, using the factor bolt holes.. The bracket comes pre drilled for, the Golight, RadioRay and the Stryker, and includes stainless hardware to mount the light to the bracket.

The bracket appears to be really well thought out, and with a price point under $40.00 I would be hard pressed to make one for less. They make it for the driver side, or passenger side.

The Light fixtures vary in price depending on what options you get, they come with a option to purchase a wireless or wired remote, when I spoke to Jason it sounded like they are working on a wireless remote with a A/B switch to allow you to operate two lights with one remote.

I’m planning on getting the GOLIGHT LED, it has very little power draw, 40watts 2.8 amps. With 320,000 Candela, and max beam distance of #,711 ft it should be more then bright enough for my needs.

Once I have had a chance to test out the bracket and the light, I will write a update.
