Route Description:
Anza Borrego Desert State Park is located just east of the town of Julian. Julian's origin was in the gold rush days of the late 1800's. Remnants of these mines still exist today, some in quite good condition.

On Saturday DaveK will be doing a run through a triangle of canyons comprised of Rodriguez, Chariot and Oriflamme. Contained within this area are several mines, all of which are on private property and almost all of which are fenced off. One of the top ten gold producing mines is in this area and the owner has given me permission to enter the property to view the the remnants of the operation, which by the way are in very good condition, given their age (over 100 years). The 5 stamp mill, with a wood frame, is still standing as is much of the machinery used to operate it. The owner has also offered to give us a tour and some history (the mine is now on his private ranch, which has been in his family for many, many years.)

Please note:
-Rock rails will help as will under carriage protection. Expect brush scratches. All of the remaining OAUSA rules and regulations will be in place.
-We will stop for lunch at the midway point near the junction of Rodriguez Canyon and Oriflamme Canyon. Bring your lunch, drinks and plenty of water.

PLEASE NOTE: No alcohol or drugs will be allowed during the trip.

Most of the mines on this tour are located on private property and cannot be seen without the permission of the land owner. This is a very special tour and one you will really enjoy. :D

I participated in this run last year, and it was awesome - we were allowed access to some amazing relics from the mining days that are not normally available to the general public, complete with a personal guided tour by the property owner - worth every minute. I even sacrificed a set of hiking boots to gain access to one of the mines on this trek, so even without shoes this trip was a terrific day in AB....
