This week’s net will cover the subject of wine.

Wine is a great companion when recreating in the outdoors as long as done responsibly. That means after the day’s activities and in a safe place like around a camp fire. Many people enjoy a glass of wine with their meals while savoring the fresh air and scenery of the great outdoors. In fact, I’ve found that a glass of wine with a home-cooked meal prepared in a Dutch oven while sitting around the campfire with friends is one of the nicer pleasures of life.

Our returning guest and our favorite Wine Master is Lynda KI6SXI. Lynda is a wealth of information on wine and will talk about wine making, wineries, wine tasting, corks, box wines, reading labels and much more.

Appreciation of good wines can be enhanced by visiting the many wineries that are increasing in number in may parts of the southwest. California is a prime location and it is no longer just a product of the northern wineries, although they are excellent. Excellent wineries are abundant in many coastal areas, and in cities like Santa Barbara, Paso Robles, and Temecula, just to name a few. Washington, Oregon, and even Idaho, offer opportunities to taste wines.

Scheduling two to three day trips is not only a good way to gain an appreciation of good wines, but a great get-away for you and your favorite wine taster! Here are just some samples of what you might see:
